Stairlifts bring quality to your life, not just your mobility
For many generations it has been a common misconception that the only benefit of a stairlift in the home is as a physical aid for people with mobility and/or age-related difficulties. There are several reasons for this stigma – the narrative around mobility we hear in the media, the elderly faces we see in the adverts, the unnecessary shame that for a long time has gone hand in hand with requiring help.
Kudos Stairlifts are very pleased to be seeing an active shift in this mindset throughout society; we all experience life in different ways and all deserve to enjoy it. Whilst having a stairlift at home has a range of purposes, they all come back to the same point – improving quality of life not only for the user, but their loved ones too.
INDEPENDENCE
Maintaining independence is important for everyone, especially for those with any conditions that impact mobility. Remaining as independent as possible is of huge significance to our mental health and dignity, no matter our age or physical wellbeing. A stairlift gives you the autonomy to continue to move around your home as you want to, when you want to.
SAFETY
Whilst safety may seem like the obvious purpose of a stairlift, it is easy to underestimate just how important it is to consider this sooner rather than later. The Trauma Audit and Research Network (TARN) found that every year in the UK, stair-related falls result in approximately 290,000 serious injuries and over 500 deaths. It is in the best interests of both the stairlift user and their loved ones to eliminate this risk early, rather than wait for something dangerous to happen that makes a stairlift a necessity rather than a precaution.
PEACE OF MIND
A stairlift of course gives the user peace of mind, but just as importantly it gives peace of mind to everyone in the user’s life. Stress and concern are alleviated knowing that the risk of a fall has been eliminated and that your loved one can still access all areas of their home, with safety and independence. Kudos Stairlifts are seeing an increase in people having a stairlift installed before there is necessarily a need for one, to future-proof their home for themselves but also so their loved ones can have this peace of mind. YOUR HOME
Home is where the heart is, home is also where your life is. No one should be at risk of feeling trapped in one space all day, without the ability to move around their home like they used to, losing the use of their own space. Moving to a bungalow or relocating bedrooms & bathrooms downstairs may seem like the solutions, but both are expensive and result in the loss of part of the home that is yours. A stairlift allows you to use your home just like you always have.
TIME TOGETHER
One of the nicest and increasingly regular pieces of feedback we hear is that having a stairlift in the home means that loved ones can actually spend more quality time together. Rather than only visiting to provide care and assistance with getting upstairs or downstairs, people can enjoy company and time together without the focus being on mobility – the focus is where it should be, on each other.
CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS
Once a year, a stairlift can actually be very helpful for a certain generous elderly man; he might be able to get down the chimney, but given that he is over 1,750 years old he would have a much easier way of getting your Christmas stockings upstairs if there is a stairlift in the home… okay, maybe this one is a bit of a stretch!
Kudos Stairlifts are proud to be a part of shifting the stigma around needing assistance, whatever the reason; the old misconceptions are getting outdated, the new way of forward-thinking is here. Quality of life is the most important factor to everyone in the world, no one should have to compromise it.
